Three-Tiered process for RTI
Screening & Interventions in Academics & Behavior
Students who are struggling with basic academics such as reading, writing and mathematics may show signs of behaviors that begin to interfere with their academic performance. These behaviors (such as refusing to try a new assignment, off-task behavior, distracting other students, etc.) may actually improve as the student receives additional instruction. Screening for behavior concerns along with academic delays begins to provide a starting point for interventions and data collection.
Good instruction is the base for all student progress (the process begins at the bottom of the triangle).
Parents need to be informed of the student's progress at predetermined times.
After interventions, if the student still has not made sufficient progress, the team may meet to discuss using more intensive strategies & instruction.
A referral for special education evaluation can be made by parents or school personnel at any time during the RTI process.
